Do I need to deal with Hungarian customs?

It’s your responsibility to make sure the contents of the parcel you send to Hungary are allowed - failing to do so may result in extra charges, the parcel being returned or possibly even destroyed. Avoid this by making sure you don’t send anything on the [ipostparcels restricted and prohibited items] list as well as for Hungary itself.

As with most international post, when you send a parcel to Hungary from the UK, there are occasionally additional customs duties and import taxes that need to be paid, depending on the contents.

Personal effects can be sent to Hungary, but these too require additional documentation, i.e. an itemised list and the values of the articles. No item should be valued at zero.

If this sounds a bit too much like hard work, don’t worry, we’ll help automatically generate any documents for you from the information you provide on the [booking form]

What items can't I send to Hungary?

Before booking your courier service, we recommend you check that all the items are allowed into Hungary; what seem like ordinary, everyday products to us in the UK are sometimes restricted or prohibited to send to other countries. We alsosuggest you re-check the regulations whenever you send a parcel, as the rules and regulations can change from time to time.

Certain items such as perishable goods, ivory and counterfeit items are not only prohibited to send to Hungary, they’re also ipostparcels prohibited items. So take a look at the full list before you prepare to send your parcel. In the meantime, some examples of items you can’t post to Hungary include:

Restricted and Prohibited Goods

Illegal and dangerous

Meat, fish and poultry

Non-prescriptive drugs Jewellery

Dairy and egg products

Radioactive materials Furs and ivory

Perishable goods

Firearms, ammunition and weapons Precious metals and stones

Please be aware that we also have our own prohibited items list, in addition to country-specific restrictions.

How to package parcels to Hungary

Depending where in the UK you send from and where it’s being delivered to, the journey your parcel will take to Hungary is roughly 1000 miles – which isn’t the furthest of distances for a package to be transported, but far enough that we advise you make an effort when preparing your parcels. ipostparcels packages are most likely to pass through a number of depots with manual and automated sorting machines, as well as the road and / or air transit time, so the occasional scrape or bump could happen. Careful preparation and packaging will help your parcel get there without damage.

We’ll transport parcels up to 25kg in weight and 80x80x80cm maximum dimensions, but no matter the size or weight of the package, you should aim to use a strong and sturdy outer box to send your items in. Remember not to over fill the box and always use lightweight packing material inside your parcel – this makes the overall weight less as well to help to cushion and protect the contents from moving around inside and becoming damaged in transit.
