How long will it take?

Whether you choose to have your parcels collected from your home or work address in the UK, you can usually expect delivery to your Nigerian destination within 3-4 days from collection. Once your parcel is there, three delivery attempts will be made and upon successful delivery, a signature will be acquired by the recipient.

While we will make every effort to get your items delivered within these guidelines, depending on the destination, it can take longer for your parcel to arrive, especially in more remote locations within Sub Saharan Africa.

ipostparcels provides cheap and convenient door to door delivery from the UK to Nigeria. Simply book your delivery online and one of our drivers will collect your parcel from your home or work on a day of your choosing. Your parcel is taken to its local depot, sorted and shipped overnight to one of our distribution centres, then onwards.

Do I need to deal with Nigerian Customs?

For any parcel heading outside of the EU, you’ll need to fill out a customs form. This tells the Customs Agents in the destination country about the contents of your package so they can process it correctly.

As with most international posting, when you send a parcel to Nigeria from the UK, there are sometimes additional customs duties and import taxes that need to be paid.

When sending parcels to Nigeria it is very important you keep an eye on the specific requirements the country has established for importing. The Nigeria Customs Administration controls importation requirements inside the nation. Nigeria takes a strong stance against smuggling and offers a hotline for reporting suspected violations.

Importation forms will ask for precise objects that are contained within your consignment, as well as the value, weight and source. Filling in the forms should help you decide whether any of your items are restricted. When you book your delivery with ipostparcels, we will provide you with all the correct customs documentation you need to help your parcel through customs in Nigeria.

HM Revenue & Customs has more information on tax and customs considerations for Nigeria.

What items can’t I send to Nigeria?

As well as the usual prohibited and restricted items you would expect from any international parcel delivery, there are some additional restrictions on what you can and can’t send to Nigeria.

It’s important to ensure that your parcel’s contents will be accepted into the country; if they don’t, it’s likely to incur additional charges, return of the parcel to you, or possibly the destruction of your parcel. You can find more information on Nigerian Customs at the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Post Office.

Some examples of items you can’t send to Nigeria include:

Restricted and Prohibited Goods

Illegal and dangerous

Poultry, beef or pork

Flammable materials

Corrugated paper and Paper Boards

Refined Vegetable Oils and Fats

Hazardous chemicals

Bagged cement

Cane or beet sugar

Soaps and Detergents

Fruit juice

Medications Mosquito Repellent Coils

Please be aware that when sending a parcel, gift or other items to Nigeria with ipostparcels, we also have our own prohibited items list, which must be observed.

How to package parcels to Nigeria

We would advise you take extra care with packaging, as your parcel will be taking a long journey and will pass through a number of depots, most with automated sorting machines. Be sure to package your items well – cushioning material inside your parcel will help protect the contents from damage. Take a look at our packaging advice here.

We’ll transport parcels up to 25kg in weight, 80x80x80cm max in size. We strongly recommend you use a sturdy outer box when sending your package and don’t overfill it, regardless of the dimensions of your parcel. If you’d like some further advice on packaging, take a look at our handy international packaging guide for tips to get everything there without damage.

How safe will my parcel be?

Provided you check and stick to the restricted and prohibited items list and general customs regulations, there should be no reason to worry when you send with us– we’ll take care of your package! We know you want to be sure it’s safe, so our free online parcel tracking system will help you keep tabs on your parcel throughout its whole journey, from collection to delivery.

In addition to this, we provide £50 free extended cover, or you can choose to add extra cover on more valuable items should you need it, so relax and let ipostparcels deliver your parcels to Nigeria without a worry.
