You are probably familiar with sending a parcel within the UK. However, some people are put-off sending a parcel abroad as they are concerned it will be expensive, take a long time or will be complicated to book. In this guide, we clear up these common misconceptions to show you how it’s just as easy to send a parcel abroad as it is within the UK.

Our international services

It may be cheaper than you think to send a parcel abroad – with ipostparcels, you can send a parcel to Europe from as little as £8.25 (ex VAT) or worldwide from £16.42 (ex VAT). We will collect the parcel from your door and deliver to your recipient as quickly as 2-3 days later. Parcels can weigh up to 25kg and measure 120 x 80 x 80cm.

As part of DHL Parcel UK, we work with DHL colleagues across the globe to provide the same quality of service abroad as we do in the UK. For countries where DHL isn’t present, we work with reliable in-country partners to deliver your parcels.

We have four international services available. Based on the information you give when booking, we will show you all of the services which meet your requirements so you can choose the one you would like to use based on transit time and price.

Journey of an International parcel:

How to complete the booking form

It is quick and easy to book a parcel delivery within the UK or abroad on ipostparcels. However, there are some slight differences between our domestic and international booking forms.

You’ll notice that there is an extra section on the international booking form, entitled ‘Customs declaration’. This information is used by customs officials in the country you are sending to so it’s important that you fill it in accurately in order avoid delays or extra charges.

If shipping outside of the EU, we will use the information supplied in the ‘Customs declaration’ to fill out a commercial or pro-forma invoice which should be printed with your shipping labels.

Below we outline each of the additional fields on the international booking form:

Weight and dimensions of parcel

Technically, this information is needed for both domestic and international shipments. However, with domestic shipments you will be given the option of 6 pre-defined parcel sizes from XS to XXL – all you need to do is pick the size which corresponds to your parcel.

With international shipments, you need to give an exact weight and dimensions for your parcel. For our top tips on how to weigh and measure your parcel, take a look at our measuring guide.

VAT Status

As part of the customs declaration in the International booking form, you will need to give your VAT status. There are four options available: Personal Individual, Company non-VAT Registered, Company VAT Registered and VAT Registered outside of UK.

For more information about duties and taxes on international shipments, take a look at our taxes and duties guide.

Reason for export

Here, you should give the reason why you are sending the goods abroad. There is a drop-down with 6 reasons to choose from: Sale or Purchase, Gift, Sample, Repair, Documents and Intra Company Transfer.

Country of origin

This is the country where the item was originally manufactured. If you are unsure, this information is usually found on the label of clothes or the base of toys and electrical equipment.
