Do I need to deal with Taiwanese customs?

For any parcel heading outside of the EU, you’ll need to fill out a customs form. This tells the Customs Agents in the destination country about the contents of your package so they can process it correctly.

As with most international postings, when you send a parcel to Taiwan from the UK, there are sometimes additional customs duties and import taxes that need to be paid, depending on the contents.

NOTE: All goods shipped to Taiwan must have a value and description for the goods shipped. Duties assessed are based on the Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) value.

As of the 8th May 2017, Taiwan customs now validate your recipient's name, address and parcel contents description

When completing your parcel delivery booking form ensure you follow the below rules:

  1. Enter the full name and address of your recipient.
  2. Be specific about what items you are sending in your parcel. Vague item descriptions will no longer be acceptable. For example, vague descriptions, such as “sample”, “parts”, “accessories”, “cloth”, “apparel”, “clothing”, “shoes”, “footwear”, ”garment”, “cosmetic”, “bag” are not acceptable. Acceptable descriptions need to detail specifically what the item is. For example; ‘’2 pairs of heeled black boots size 3’’, ‘’sample of a kitchen tile 20cm x 20 cm x 20cm’’

Please be advised: not adhering to the above customs rules for Taiwan will cause your parcel to be either delayed, disposed of or returned back to you.

Sending personal effects to Taiwan also requires further declaration; a copy of the recipients passport with photo and arrival stamp pages visible will be required for collection.

If this sounds like a challenge, don’t worry - when you book your delivery with ipostparcels, we will provide you with all the correct forms you need to help your parcel through both UK and Taiwanese customs.

What items can't I send to Taiwan?

Before booking your courier service to Taiwan, please check that all the items are allowed; sometimes what seem like ordinary, every day products to us are in fact restricted or prohibited to send to other countries. Taiwan has several items that fall into this category, so we advise to re-check the regulations every time you send a parcel, as the regulations can change often.

For more information on restricted and prohibited items for Taiwan – visit the Taiwan Customs Administration website.

Products such as currency, firearms and hazardous materials are not only prohibited to send to Taiwan, they’re also on the ipostparcels prohibited list - take a look at the full list before you prepare to send your parcel. Moon-cake is also a prohibited item and cannot be sent to Taiwan. In the meantime, some examples of items you can’t post to Taiwan include:

Restricted and Prohibited Goods

Illegal and dangerous

Meat and poultry

Illegal narcotics Jewellery

Dairy products

Asbestos and chemicals Plants and samples

Perishables - including Moon-cake

Firearms, ammunition and explosives Gambling devices

Please be aware that we also have our own prohibited items list, in addition to country-specific restrictions.

How to package parcels to Taiwan

Depending where you send your parcel from in the UK, the journey your parcel will take to Taiwan is just over 6000 miles – which is why we advise making an extra effort when preparing your parcels for transport. All ipostparcels packages will likely pass through a number of depots with both manual and automated sorting machines, as well as the road and air transit time, when the occasional knock or bump could occur.

We’ll carry parcels up to 25kg in weight and 80x80x80cm max, but regardless of the size or weight, you should always use a strong and sturdy outer box to send your items in. Remember not to over fill the box and to use lightweight material inside your parcel to help cushion and protect the contents from moving around inside and becoming damaged.
