The Apple Watch launched in late April and marked the latest in a series of spectacular technological developments.
It was so popular that Apple doesn’t expect it to actually hit the shelves until June at the earliest, as the tech giant looks to ensure that all pre-orders are sent out first!
Initially available in nine countries, including the US, UK, Germany, Japan, Australia and China, it features wearable technology that could alter the way we live.
The watch itself looks impressive and features a gazillion different features, including some that were simply unthinkable just two decades ago.
So as the Apple Watch slowly works its way on to the wrists of people across the planet, we take a look at some of technology of the past – the inventions that really changed the world.
“Not all problems have a technological answer, but when they do, that is the more lasting solution.”
1.Television
It’s hard to believe how far the development of television has come since Scottish inventor John Logie Baird demonstrated the first colour transmission in 1928. Now, nearly 90 years on, major companies have developed smart TV’s that incorporate the internet and other apps, as well as curved screens and 3D viewing. The big question now is what comes next?
2.Radio
Technology that boosts the way we communicate with each other has the ability to alter how we live. Radio was a fantastic example, as it no longer meant that you had to be in the same place as someone to hear them speak. It ultimately led to more of the modern inventions we see today and its influence on the world is virtually impossible to ignore.
3.Satellite Communications
The reason why the world has access to information, video, data and television from around the globe comes from the invention of satellite comms. Information is relayed from the earth to a satellite and back, enabling us to see and hear what is going on from every corner of the planet. At the start of May this year, more than 2,000 satellite were I orbit and relaying information.
4.The internet
The go-to source of modern information is only a couple of decades old and it is difficult for the modern generations to imagine a globe without the World Wide Web.
The WWW ideal that we know today is down to British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee, and without him you might not be sat here reading this article. Linking hypertext documents to nodes became reality in 1990 and developments have continued since, with most efforts focused on improving speeds and performance.
5.The iPhone
While there are numerous different iPhones in circulation, they all serve very much the same purpose and represent a truly ground-breaking piece of innovation. Even fans of Android phones have to look at Apple and admire, as the iPhone has become a symbol of the current generation since its launch in 2007.
It showcases what can be done when a simple concept is updated as technology becomes available, and everyone is sure to have a keen eye on what new technology comes with the next generation of the phone that is expected to launch in 2015.
